Established in 1988 by John Weisinger, Weisinger Family Winery was the first winery established in Ashland, Oregon and one of the first in the Rogue Valley AVA. Weisinger Family Winery’s focus is on limited production craft wines exclusively from local vineyards. Sourcing from vineyards that are within 5 miles of the winery, Weisinger Family supports local growers and the local economy. The winery specializes in Tempranillo, Syrah, Malbec, Grenache and Pinot Noir, as well as Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The winery is also well known for their proprietary Bordeaux blends. Weisinger Family Winery hosts wine tasting, tours, private events, and has lodging available at their romantic and charming Vineyard Cottage.
Eric Weisinger, a second-generation Oregon winemaker, took over winemaking from his father John Weisinger in 1997. As well as having 18 vintages as winemaker in Oregon, Eric’s resume includes vintages in California’s Alexander Valley, Australia’s Margaret River region and the Marlborough region of New Zealand where Eric worked as consulting Pinot Noir winemaker for 8 vintages. Today, along with making wine for his family’s winery, Eric also consults with and makes wine for several other southern Oregon wine brands.
As far as winemaking philosophy goes, Eric’s belief is that a wine can only be as great as the fruit from which it is produced. Therefore, Eric manages the majority of the vineyards where Weisinger Family Winery sources their fruit and does his best to live by the old wine proverb, “There is no substitute for footprints in the vineyard”.
Estate & Local Vineyards
Our estate is planted to three varietals. Our Gewurztraminer, referred to as our heritage vines, were planted in 1978, one of the first vineyards in the Rogue Valley, by John Weisinger and his three young children. In 2005, Pinot Noir clone 777 as well as Tempranillo, clones 01 and Duero were planted to the Estate. Of all the fruit that is not grown on our estate is sourced within 5 miles of our property. Of the sourced fruit we are responsible for the viniculture and farming on about 85% of those vineyards.
Wine Tech Sheets
